Mark Edmundson is Professor of English at the University of Virginia.  As a scholar and public intellectual, he has contributed to important discussions on higher education, the role of the liberal arts and the humanities, the teaching of English, and the morality of sports.  His books include Why Football Matters: My Education in the GameWhy Teach?, The Fine Wisdom and Perfect Teachings of the Kings of Rock and Roll,  The Death of Sigmund FreudWhy Read?, Teacher: The One Who Made the DifferenceLiterature Against Philosophy: From Plato to DerridaWild Orchids and Trotsky, and the forthcoming Self and Soul: A Defense of Ideals (Harvard).  All students, faculty, and staff are invited.
